Department of Agricultural Engineering

 

Introduction of the department:

The department of agricultural engineering of Bijie vocational and technical college Bijie was established on the basis of the majors associated with agriculture of the former Bijie agricultural school in 2008. The department, adhering to the employment-oriented guideline, attaches importance to the training of the students’ comprehensive vocational quality, and implements the combination of the "target teaching" model and "ability module teaching" model, unifies teaching, scientific research, production, and service, aiming at cultivating highly-skilled and mid-level high-quality agricultural professionals with practical skills and creative minds

In the last three years, about 1300 highly-skilled and mid-level practical agricultural technicians have been cultivated to serve the society, and more than 2860 rural bellwethers of becoming rich with entrepreneurial spirit have been trained, which is a great contribution to the economic and social development of Bijie district.

The apartment of agricultural engineering now has 53 professional teachers including 1 with senior technical title, 19 with senior vice technical titles, 23 middle-rank technical titles, and 119 junior technical titles; 6 of them hold master degrees or above, 3 of them are external experts, and 36 are "double qualified" teachers.

The department has 16 training rooms and 23 bases for teaching and practice inside and outside the campus. Those bases on campus have a total construction area of 11380.00 square meters, and equipment for teaching and practice is generally worth 6.678 million RMB.

There are 6 higher vocational majors: animal husbandry and veterinary, garden engineering technology, cultivation technique of Chinese herbal medicine, sightseeing agriculture, water conservancy project, and quality detection of agricultural products and 2 secondary vocational majors: modern agricultural art and tobacco planting technology. At present the total students at school are 562. The initial employment rate of the graduates is 90.2.

The department of agricultural engineering will further implement eight major projects, namely "the management construction project", "practice base construction project", "course construction project", "masters project", "teaching reform and scientific research development and application project", "teaching quality improvement project", "great service project for students’ good employment ", and "professional culture construction project" to form a department with more abundant teaching competence, more characteristics of college running, more comprehensive service functions, and more efficiency in teaching and management.

 

Introduction of the majors:

 

Animal husbandry and veterinary

Education level: Higher vocational college

Training objectivetraining high-quality skilled professionals with creative minds who are able to work in the front line of technological service for production as well as management for the enterprises and public institutions related to modern animal husbandry and veterinary, feed production and marketing and animal food processing and testing.

Length of schooling: three years

Main courses: veterinary basis, fundamental animal husbandry, livestock breeding and animal diseases diagnosis and treatment technology, animal quarantine, animal husbandry management, livestock and poultry production, etc.

Employment direction: mainly working in the enterprises animal husbandry and veterinary, food processing enterprises, public institutions and related scientific research institutions to offer technical service and management.

 

           Landscape engineering technology

Education level: higher vocational college

Training objective: Training practical landscape engineering and technical personnel with creative minds who are able to work in the first line of the service and management for enterprises and public institutions related to modern tourism landscape, city landscape and natural landscape.

Length of schooling: three years

Main courses: botany, landscape engineering metrology, soil and fertilizer, garden nursery, landscape plant diseases and pests control, landscape scheme and design, landscape engineering.

Employment direction: mainly go into the technology service and management for tourism, garden and urban beautification and greening planning, design, and construction.

 

Chinese herbal medicine planting technology

Education level: higher vocational college

Training objective: training high-quality practical technical talents with creative minds who are able to work in the first line of the service and management involved in cultivation, production and operation of Chinese herbal medicine for enterprises and public institutions related to the cultivation, production, processing, and analysis of Chinese herbal medicine.

Length of schooling: three years.

Main courses: pharmaceutical botany, traditional Chinese pharmacology, medicinal plant cultivation, medicinal plants protection, Chinese traditional medicine analysis and identification, traditional Chinese medicine processing, pharmacy Administration.

Employment direction: mainly go into the enterprises and public institutions relating to Chinese medicine to offer the technical service for the cultivation, production, processing, operation and management of Chinese traditional medicine.

 

Landscape engineering technology

Education level: higher vocational college

Training objective: training high-quality practical technical talents with creative minds specializing in technology of sightseeing agriculture who are able to work in the first line of service and management for the enterprises and public institutions relating to the production, operation and management of modern sightseeing agriculture.

Length of schooling: three years

Main courses: botany, soil and fertilizer science, design and planning of agricultural sightseeing garden, vegetable cultivation, plant diseases and pests control, floriculture, lawn building and maintenance, fruiter cultivation, distripark operation and management.

Employment direction: mainly go into the agriculture-related business, horticulture and tourism industry to offer the technical service for the production, operation, and management.

 

Hydraulic engineering

Education level: higher vocational college

Training objective: training high-quality practical technical talents with creative minds specializing in technology of hydraulic engineering for the enterprises and public institutions related to the construction and management of hydraulic engineering to work on the construction technique of project, construction organization and management, and operation management of water conservancy project.

Length of schooling: three years

Main courses: engineering survey, building materials, engineering geology and hydrogeology, hydraulic reinforced concrete structure, management of water conservancy project, irrigation and water conservancy, water conservancy project budget, water administration and supervision, hydraulic engineering economy.

Employment direction: work in the departments of water conservancy and hydropower construction engineering, water conservancy and hydropower project management, and urban and rural water management and other enterprises and public institutions to offer the technical service and management.

 

Agricultural product quality testing

Education level: higher vocational college

Training objective: training high-quality practical technical talents with creative minds specializing in agricultural product quality testing for the business related to agricultural products, catering etc, who are able to work on the quality analysis and detection, quality control, and teaching and scientific research on the production, storage, transportation and sale of agricultural products and food.

Length of schooling: three years

Main courses: agricultural environmental hygiene, agricultural product quality testing and agricultural products, animal and plant quarantine.

Nursing

Education level: higher vocational college

Agriculture arts

Education level: secondary vocational education

Length of schooling: three years

Tobacco cultivation technology

Education level: secondary vocational education

Length of schooling: three years

Main courses: botany, science of soil and fertilizer, tobacco production, tobacco pest control, tobacco baking technology, identification of flue-cured tobacco quality.

Employment direction: mainly go into the flue-cured tobacco production, purchase and processing enterprises and public institutions to offer the technical service for the production, operation and management.
